People’s Park

When I travel to a new place, I always do two things. First, I make a list of exotic food I must try. Second, I check Atlas Obscura to find weird spots to visit. And voilà. Thanks to it, I found one of the best places to photograph in Singapore: the People’s Park Complex.

It’s a high-rise commercial and residential building in Chinatown, with a rooftop parking lot where you can (with a bit of luck and zero fear) sneak in and get some amazing shots of the surrounding buildings and the city skyline.

I wanted to give the pictures a bit of a cozy cyberpunk vibe (yep, I just invented that) so I shot during the blue hour — right between sunset and dusk. Everything turns into soft purple pastels, and the light plays nicely with the buildings and skyscrapers. It’s calm, a bit futuristic, and slightly surreal. The city feels busy, but also quiet at the same time.

I had great fun. There’s something really rewarding about going solo on these little adventures — ending up in places with no tourists around, taking your time, and just experimenting with different angles without anyone rushing you.

It feels a bit like having the city all to yourself. 💖
